The Children's Crusade

Eight centuries ago the peasants and townspeople of Rhineland and living along the Loire had been witnesses to the same astonishing phenomenon. At around the same time bands of unarmed children began marching from the two regions to the South, with the conviction that they can achieve what kings, knights and other sinful powers-that-be had not managed: liberating the Holy Land from under the rule of the Saracens. They did not reach their goal, the Mediterranean did not part, and most of them ended up as slaves. But is this really what happened?
