"This was built by Saddam Hussein, son of Nebuchadnezzar, to glorify Iraq" – was the inscription the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had carved on the bricks of the palace built in the 1980s on the ruins of the palace of the great Babylonian ruler, Nebuchadnezzar II. The bloody tyrant claimed to be the heir of an empire that did not attain fame by subjugating neighboring peoples, but rather with its culture and scientific achievements, which had a great influence on not only peoples of the Middle East, but also on Greek and Roman culture, and thus indirectly on today's western civilization as well.
